“The perfect food? You start by planting your own tomatoes!”
Some people come to Viscri for its famous white fortress; others hope to meet an English royalty. But there are also those, increasingly numerous, that simply want to taste Gerda’s food. Nothing sophisticated, Gerda only serves what her mother and friends taught her: old Saxon recipes chiseled generation after generation, slowly cooked to perfection on her wooden stove. The result is surprisingly good, even the connoisseurs agree. No wonder that Gerda has been asked to take her preserves and pickles overseas, from Italy to UK, or to cook for Slow Food events such as the “Salone Internationale del Gusto” in Torino.
So come and meet Gerda, join her in the garden first to choose your ingredients and then in the kitchen, learn the tricks to make delicious simple food you can easily replicate at home. Besides cooking stories, you will savor tales that recreate the lost Saxon life in Transylvania.
